Looking Back
If someone looked back at my different posts, I think that they would view me as a staunch conservative. I have personally really enjoyed writing out my thoughts on different political stances for homework, and have gotten better at voicing my own opinion on current political topics. A person reading my blog would find that I firmly believe in the Constitution, our right to bear arms, the right to not judge others for their personal opinions, and that i'm someone who believes in the government not interfering. I am a strong believer in not having government interference and this new health care act will infringe on my belief in being able to make my own choice for myself and my family. Overall, I believe that I am a firm Republican who enjoys her rights to vote, and enjoys feeling like I live in a country where people exercising their freedom is a constant right.

Gay Marriage

Poem
Gay Marriage
Wait Wait,
Let me get this right,
You feel
Gay marriage is bad?
Why are you ok with love,
if only each person's straight.
What's the difference,
Can I say
Between those two souls.
Does the gender really matter
Between your acceptance of their souls?
What if the world said to you,
"You cannot marry who you choose"
Would you fight for your one 'true' love
Or give in on the issue
I'm happy to know that your life is going fine,
please don't judge or love me less,
because my 'choice' is apparently wrong.
I wrote this because of how many friends I have dealing with this issue who haven't necessarily found answers. I have a tough time telling other people that they cannot marry someone who they believe is their soulmate, and so many people I know hate people that are homosexuals. I think that the tide is changing in regard to helping accept homosexuals and that even christian's are realizing that saying verses from Roman's aren't helping them change...

Unit 6 Comprehensive Assignment
You wrote to your U.S. Representative and one of your U.S. Senators. Use this experience to inform your work on your comprehensive assignment. Did they respond to you? Comment on the legislation. What did you learn about the responsibilities of citizenship?
Since I just wrote to Rick Larsen and Patty Murrey, it will probably be a few week's until I hear back from them. In the past, I have not received a quick response to emails I have sent to different senators and representatives. I chose two legislations in Washington State ( that is where I am from), and one was concerning some land conservation on the San Juan Islands, and the other was concerning bettering a program that helps deal with child abuse and trauma. I enjoyed writing the emails and researching these bills, and I think that I can work on voicing my opinion more often. I rarely feel like my voice makes a difference when emailing senators or representatives because I do not feel like there are enough voices doing the same thing as I. I enjoy doing rallies more than emailing. In Washington we would always travel down to Olympia to rally for the Pro-life movement, and I felt that I enjoyed that experience more than emailing.

Instructions: Speak to the
Tune of the Nursery Rhythm, “Eeni Meeni Miini mo”
Eenie meenie mini mo,
We should vote and then I know.
We will have a pres-i-dent,
That is good and won’t be bent.
My mom told me to pick the very best one,
and Obama’s not it.
Eenie meenie mini mo,
Catch Obama by his toe.
If he hollers then you know,
To pay taxes mo’ and mo’.
My mom told me to pick the very best one,
and Obama’s not it.
Eenie meenie mini mo,
As our debt is rising, no.
Obama care won’t help the nation
Just listen as I tell you so
My mom told me to pick the very best one,
and Obama’s not it.
This is a somewhat ironic summary
of the voting process, and how the lack of voting or the lack of opinion has
caused healthcare to be put in place here in the United States. There was such
a huge outcry among the Republican’s when Obama was elected for a second time
because they knew that he would mandate government healthcare for all. The
Republican Party is highly against government-mandated healthcare because of
their core beliefs of how involved the government should be in our daily lives.

Week 4 homework- Comprehensive Assignment
I really enjoyed reading this week's Pew Research article.
The quiz can be taken here, http://www.people-press.org/2007/04/15/public-knowledge-of-current-affairs-little-changed-by-news-and-information-revolutions/
Even though I scored 11/13 correct I still did not feel well equipped about what I was doing. I think what this quiz did for me was show me how little I know about what is going on even though I try to stay updated with events. I think that with working full-time, school, being married and etc I struggle with staying up-to-date with current events because I feel like I have no time to stay current. Granted, I have not been taking advantage of social media in the way I should. I need to be signing up for emails and making sure to check major news outlets every day but this class has been challenging me in that area and I am getting better at it. My husband is amazing at making sure to do this every day, and i'm going to keep working at getting to the point when I am able to spend time every day researching current world affairs.

Personally,
this class has been challenging to me, because it has forced me to put my
political opinions into words. I enjoy researching politics and finding out
what is going on in the world, but I rarely discuss the topics with anyone else
other than my husband. I have enjoyed reading other classmates’ opinions on the
different topics, and have enjoyed learning to write and voice my own views. I
cannot see evidence of my pew typology in my work because the quiz put me at
being a “Disaffecteds.” If the quiz had put me in the category of
either Conservatives, I would have seen a connection between my songs and posts
so far. My belief in the government not changing our rights on guns, and my
view of less government being better would be consistent with my more
conservative view. For the rest of the class, I am going to work on drawing on
my own political views because this will challenge me to clearly define what I
believe about government, social work, and politics. I view myself as a
Republican and I do not believe that will ever change, but I do know that my
views on social work have changed to lean more towards the left since
volunteering in homeless shelters and taking sociology classes for my degree.

Instructions: Sing
to the tune of “Old McDonald had a Farm”
An Anti-federalist’s Lament
Stronger central government no eee no eee
no
States should have their regional rights
yay iii yay iii yo
Not a Monarch here or a Monarch there
Here a mark there a mark
Everywhere a mark, mark
Stronger central government no eee no eee
no
We only want state government yay iii yay
iii yo
With regional rights our states are safe yay
iii yay iii yo
The power within the voice of the poor
Here the poor there the poor
Everyone the poor, poor
We only state government yay iii yay iii
yo
Protect the rights of common men yay iii
yay iii yo
Church and state don’t separate yay iii
yay iii yo
We already have a bill of rights
Here a bill, there a bill
Everywhere a bill, bill
Protect the rights of common men yay iii
yay iii yo
I
wrote this song based on the different characteristics of Anti-federalism. Anti-Federalists
believed that our country would flourish without the centralized government
that is represented by England. They believed that state’s rights were most
important and feared that giving power to those in upper society would not be
in there best interests. Some radicals among this group believed that a
centralized government system would rise over the people and raise conscription
and income taxation on all the states. Since these aspects would be opposite of
protecting their view of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, this type
of government was not an option.

Instructions:
Sing to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”
“Firearms”
Everyone
should have their right,
To bear arms protect and
fight,
Government already takes,
That they should and
shouldn't take,
Now don't let them take
our right to bear our arms, protect and fight.
Twinkle, twinkle little
guns,
Government will take them
for fun,
If you take my guns from
me I will get them back, plus three,
Family I won’t neglect,
armed empowered to protect.
Bad men don't pay money
for,
Illegal gun that kill
much more,
Good men will obey the
law,
And bad men abuse them
all,
Come and listen to our
plight, to protect and use our right.
I
personally believe that the government should never interfere with The People’s
rights concerning firearms. I have always been on the side of believing that
law-abiding citizens will be able to protect themselves in the method they
choose, because they will want to do what is right for their family. With the
various mass shootings the last few years, many people have been pushing
revoking parts of our rights to bear arms. This song is a personal belief that
the government should not punish those who are purchasing firearms legally and
receiving the proper training.
